Jasmin İhraç, born 1981, grew up in Cologne. She studied in Berlin and holds a Diploma in Sociology from the FU Berlin since 2008 and a Bachelor in Contemporary Dance, Context and Choreography from the HZT Berlin since February 2010.
Between 2004 and 2005 Jasmin lived, studied and worked in Paris and Barcelona for independent theatre, dance and political projects. During her studies she collaborated with Boris Charmatz and Anne Collod. Joint projects were dedicated to reconstruction and archives which became major interests of her solo work. Through encounters with Thomas Lehmen and artistwin deufert&plischke, she developed particular curiosity about choreography at the intersection of (dance) theory and praxis. With the support of Rosalind Crisp she enhanced her dancing and learned to establish improvisation tools. She engages in antiracism, focussing on the interplay between political activism and artistic work. Against this backdrop, she explores how the political comes to its dance and dance finds its politics. As part of the antiracist network Kanak Attak, she developed the performance The Walking Cube that was shown in Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin in 2008 and in the frame of the exhibition Crossing Munich in Munich in 2009.
Together with Catalina Fernandéz and Juliana Piquero, she founded the Berlin based performance network fanni fraktal in 2009. For their actual research project Carnival and Speech, they received the Tanzrecherche NRW scholarship and they will be working in Brotfabrik/Bonn for three months. Jasmin is in close exchange with Çati Dans Association in Istanbul and assisted to Mustafa Kaplan and Filiz Sızanlı (Taldans, Istanbul) for the preparations of their new creation in 2008. In summer 2009 she worked in the team of Projektensemble PET_3, initiated by Tanzlabor_21, at the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt/Main.
Her solo on reconstruction and artistic authorship Trois Voies was presented at the 2. Biennale Tanzausbildung in Essen in March 2010. To deepen this piece she worked with Eva Karczag in Arnhem. Jasmin recently received a scholarship for the Summerlab_2010 taking place at Mousonturm in Frankfurt/Main where she will participate in the workshop Trans Artistic Dialogue of Mathilde Monnier and Christophe Wavelet. Currently, she is involved in the project Autour de la table, initiated by Anne Kerzerho, Alain Michard and Loïc Touzé that will be realized between Istanbul (Çati Dans), Lisbon and Nantes and she will work with artistwin deufert&plischke in 2011.
