Professor for Sociology of Human Movement and Dance at the Universität Hamburg (UHH) since 2002. Her main research areas include Urban Studies, Performance Studies, Dance Studies, Dance in pop/ular culture and urban environments, and transnationlisation of dance cultures. She is speaker of the research group "Translating and Framing. Practices of Medial Transformations", deputy speaker of the graduate school "Collectivity in Urban and Digital Spaces" and PI of the graduate school "Virtuality of the aesthetic", Director of the Center for Performance Studies Hamburg and Vice-Director of the Research Center for Media and Communication at the University of Hamburg.
She was a Guest Professor i. a. at the University in Bern, Switzerland, the 'Mozarteum' Salzburg/ Austria, the Smith College (USA), the University of Stellenbosch/ South Africa and the Osaka City University/ Japan.
