A mobile multimedia performance with Awa Odori dancers (Tokushima/ Japan) wearing Obon costumes equipped with sound-to-light LED systems. and wireless receivers. Their accompanying musical instruments (shamisen, drums and flute) are played through their costumes. Their wearable LED lighting (using sound-to-light sensors) light up the costumes in a three-tier system according to the sounds (bass, midrange, and treble).
Awa Odori is a dance ritual that is part of the cultural heritage of the city of Tokushima.
With Awa Odori 3000 I have supplemented this ritual by providing interactive LED (sound-to-light) technology to their traditional kimonos.
The dance "canon" (movement canon occurs when dancers perform the same phrase ) is repeated in different sights and situations within a city. Awa Odori is essentially an urban sound-and- light performance.
The video shows 1 "canon" of the performance.
