“Twelfth Floor is a landscape in which we become confined observers. Sometimes searching for exits, sometimes happy to remain.” (Tanja Liedtke)
Construct takes a look at the sharp, rigorous and sometimes curious work that goes into the act of building. It inhabits an empty theatre full of possibility - a space in which to construct an existence; a future, a life, a home. From first dwellings to contemporary towers to shelter assembled from the need to simply survive, the physical act of building a structure, a connection or a dream is rich in metaphor and emotional bonds. Building - re-building - demolition - slow decay. Liedtke uses inventive movement and simple design to evoke the familiar, the domestic and the unexpected twist.
Twelfth Floor was originally devised through a choreographic Fellowship at The Australian Choreographic Centre, Canberra. Its final development and tour were produced by Performing Lines for Mobile States: Touring Contemporary Performance, Australia in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre’s iNSPACE Programme.
