in\TWO SOLOS by Jorge Morro and Norbert Servos

If you were used to think in a unity of two you have to recreate yourself as a single person. Two dance solos with the same subject: the fear of loneliness – from a female and from a male perspective. But man and woman have one thing in common: They have to overcome their ego in order to find a new beginning. In their desperation they try out whatever promises a way out of the disaster: an imaginary speed dating, dreaming of an ideal partner, a firework of virtuosity. But at the end nothing works. Failing as chance.

NOT COMING BACK – A Woman’s Solo

A woman in a space alone, perhaps in a hotel room where she used to meet her partner. He doesn’t appear any longer but she keeps coming back to this room again and again until she is not able to leave anymore. She finds herself trapped like an animal, not being able to move, not finding the way out. She is lost in her memories, dreams, sometimes nightmares. The only way to free herself is taking a close look to her inside. The piece tells her story, exploring her emotional landscapes. She is running away from her own shadow. Trying to be somebody else. Creating her perfect partner. She imagines to go to a speed dating, but there is nobody answering her. She faces her actual situation. Some places never let you go. The piece talks about how we leave and how we are left at the same time. Running faster and faster she managed to stop time. She is timeless … the only thing left is her strong breathing. With her breath she recreates herself new … Light!

DRESSED TO KILL – A Man’s Solo

The piece is inspired by the real case of US-American Kevin Cotter who was left by his wife after twelve years of marriage. Staying alone with her wedding dress he started to abuse the dress in every possible way. Our man in the piece goes through different states in a manic ‚tour de force’: dancing, talking, playing piano, shouting, but also dreaming. He tries to compensate the loss of a relationship by showing off. Overcoming the drama of his own ego, he finally realizes:

How can we know who we are if there is nobody. Nobody. Talking into the wind. Standing at the coast talking to the clouds, the waves, the sand. – No, we don’t have to like the reply. But there has to be one. – Can you imagine how big it is out there? How unbelievable big? Can you imagine you scream and there is nothing, not even the echo of your own voice?

Wenn man gewohnt war, in einer Einheit von zwei Personen zu denken, muss man sich als Einzelperson neu erschaffen. Zwei Tanzsolos mit dem gleichen Thema: die Angst vor der Einsamkeit - aus weiblicher und aus männlicher Perspektive. Doch eines haben Mann und Frau gemeinsam: Sie müssen ihr Ego überwinden, um einen neuen Anfang zu finden. In ihrer Verzweiflung probieren sie alles aus, was einen Ausweg aus dem Desaster verspricht: ein imaginäres Speed-Dating, das Träumen vom idealen Partner, ein Feuerwerk der Virtuosität. Doch am Ende klappt nichts. Scheitern als Chance.

NOT COMING BACK – A Woman’s Solo

Eine Frau in einem Raum allein, vielleicht in einem Hotelzimmer, in dem sie ihren Partner getroffen hat. Er taucht nicht mehr auf, aber sie kommt immer wieder in dieses Zimmer zurück, bis sie nicht mehr gehen kann. Sie ist gefangen wie ein Tier, kann sich nicht bewegen, findet keinen Ausweg. Sie verliert sich in ihren Erinnerungen, Träumen, manchmal Albträumen. Die einzige Möglichkeit, sich zu befreien, besteht darin, einen Blick in ihr Inneres zu werfen. Das Stück erzählt ihre Geschichte und erkundet ihre emotionalen Landschaften. Sie flieht vor ihrem eigenen Schatten. Sie versucht, jemand anderes zu sein. Sie erschafft ihren perfekten Partner. Sie stellt sich vor, zu einem Speed-Dating zu gehen, aber es antwortet ihr niemand. Sie stellt sich ihrer aktuellen Situation. Manche Orte lassen einen nie los. Das Stück handelt davon, wie wir gehen und wie wir gleichzeitig verlassen werden. Indem sie immer schneller rennt, gelingt es ihr, die Zeit anzuhalten. Sie ist zeitlos ... das Einzige, was ihr bleibt, ist ihr starker Atem. Mit ihrem Atem erschafft sie sich neu ... Licht!

DRESSED TO KILL – A Man’s Solo

Das Stück ist inspiriert von dem realen Fall des US-Amerikaners Kevin Cotter, der nach zwölf Jahren Ehe von seiner Frau verlassen wurde. Als er mit ihrem Hochzeitskleid allein blieb, begann er, das Kleid auf jede erdenkliche Weise zu missbrauchen. Unser Mann in dem Stück durchläuft in einer manischen 'Tour de Force' verschiedene Zustände: Er tanzt, spricht, spielt Klavier, schreit, träumt aber auch. Er versucht, den Verlust einer Beziehung durch Angeberei zu kompensieren. Als er das Drama seines eigenen Egos überwindet, erkennt er schließlich:

Wie können wir wissen, wer wir sind, wenn es niemanden gibt. Niemand. Er spricht in den Wind. An der Küste stehen und mit den Wolken, den Wellen, dem Sand reden. - Nein, die Antwort muss uns nicht gefallen. Aber es muss eine geben. - Können Sie sich vorstellen, wie groß es da draußen ist? Wie unvorstellbar groß? Kannst du dir vorstellen, dass du schreist und nichts da ist, nicht einmal das Echo deiner eigenen Stimme?
