Beschreibung

“Jeans and tee-shirts, trainers and short skirts: eight girls combine their particular pleasure in getting a kick out of dance, and in doing so together. The music is that of PJ Harvey, female rock singer, singing of intimacy and passion, of desire and contemplation, her spirit harsh and sensual, independent. For her new piece, Publique, Mathilde Monnier’s approach, as always very contemporary, focuses on pleasure. It’s a storm. But in her own style. If the performers‚ movements seem reminiscent of all and sundry taking to dance, the choreographer bears in mind that her dancers are professionals ultra specialized in sensation and perception. So as better to discern what resonates with the public, they have explored the movement strata by strata; its codes, its origins, its twists and turns. They remembered having once been adolescents themselves, and of having felt drawn to the intimacy and fantasy of dance. It is a restless piece, colorful and light, Mathilde Monnier catches us unawares with Publique, while re-affirming her demanding quest for the meaning of movement.”
