Welsh choreographer and movement director Andrew George made his Royal Opera debut in 1998, on Le nozze di Figaro directed by Patrick Young in the Shaftesbury Theatre. He has since worked on Salome, Adrianna Lecouvreur, Les Troyens and Andrea Chénier, all directed by David McVicar. George was born in South Wales and trained at Laban Dance Centre. He worked as a dancer for Matthew Bourne for several years before beginning his career as an opera choreographer, and now works for the world’s leading companies. His UK credits include Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Carmen and Giulio Cesare in Egitto for Glyndebourne Festival, La traviata for Welsh National Opera, The Rake’s Progress for Scottish Opera and The Turn of the Screw, Der Rosenkavalier, Agrippina and The Handmaid’s Tale for English National Opera. George’s international credits include Anna Bolena, Giulio Cesare in Egitto and Don Giovanni for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Rusalka for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Tristan und Isolde in Tokyo, Der Ring des Nibelungen for Opéra national du Rhin, L’incoronazione di Poppea for Berlin State Opera, La Monnaie, Brussels, and Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Don Carlos in Frankfurt, Tannhäuser for La Scala, Milan, Les Contes d’Hoffmann for Salzburg Festival, L’elisir d’amore in Amsterdam, La bohème in Hamburg, Orphée aux enfers and Agrippina for La Monnaie and Il trovatore in Los Angeles.
