Edgardo Mercado. Choreographer, professional dancer and dance professor. He has performed in Argentina and abroad under the direction of prestigious Argentinean choreographers. He received his very first training in ballet from Gloria Kazda and from Cristina Barnils in modern dance. Edgardo has also studied choreographic analysis and composition with Susana Tambutti. He continued his studies in Europe and the United States, invited to the National Centre for Choreography of Rillieux-La Pape, France under the direction of Maguy Marin and to the National Centre of Choreography of Tours, France under the direction of Daniel Larrieu. He has attended many seminars given by Win Vandekeybus, David Zambrano, Rebecca Hilton, Juan Kruz Diaz Garaio Esnaola and Jeremy Nelson, among others. Before dedicating to dance Edgardo studied physics at the University of Buenos Aires and taught upper-level Mathematics. In 1997 he joined the Nucleodanza group, where he danced under the direction of Susana Tambutti and Margarita Bali. He has performed in many international festivals in the United States, Costa Rica, New Zealand, France and Argentina. He has received both national and international awards and scholarships: the Antorchas Foundation Scholarship in 1998, the American Dance Festival (ADF) Scholarship in 1998, the Antorchas Foundation Scholarship in 2000 to study in France, the Fondo Nacional de las Artes 2005 for the creation of a new piece and the Fondo Metropolitano de las Artes y las Ciencias 2007 and 2008. In 2004 PRODANZA awarded him with a grant for the creation of Tierra de Mandelbrot. As a choreographer he has worked on pieces such us Pizzurno Pixelado (co-choreographer), Pequeña muestra de dimensión no entera, Tierra de Mandelbrot, Plano Difuso and Argumentos a favor de la oscuridad. Tierra de Mandelbrot and Plano Difuso have taken part of the Bienal de la danse de Lyon 2006, the V and VI Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires, and the American Dance Festival (ADF) 2007. Tierra de Mandelbrot has been distinguished with the Teatros del Mundo award as one of the best choreographic directions at the local 2005 season and Plano Difuso received the special priece of the jury of the Paradigma Digital 2008 award by MacStation. His last piece, Argumentos a favor de la oscuridad, was premiered on November 2007 at the CETC (Experimentation Centre of the Colón Theatre). During 2008 he has presented Plano Difuso in the XXVIII Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea Lila López, Mexico and his trilogy (Tierra de Mandelbrot, Plano Difuso and Argumentos a favor de la oscuridad) has participated of the Circuito Brasileiro dos Festivais Internacionais de Dança (Bienal Internacional de Dança do Ceará, FID – Fórum Internacional de Dança (Belo Horizonte), Festival Internacional de Dança do Recife and Panorama de Dança (Rio de Janeiro). Nowadays Edgardo is working on his a piece that will take part of the Ballet Contemporáneo del Teatro San Martín 2009th Program, at the same time he is currently teaching dance at the IUNA (National University of Arts) and the Centro Cultural San Martín.
