Beschreibung

Belongings is a series of vignettes of train passengers and their belongings shifting between the modern day and the 20th century.

Written for tenor and cello it conjures a series of different characters from across the times (see synopsis attached.)

It premiered on the Caledonian Sleeper Train as it left Aberdeen Scotland en route to London on the eve of Tete a Tete's 10th anniversary Festival and was then performed across public spaces in King's Cross London as part of the Festival. It was then performed again on the Caledonian Sleeper Train this time en route from London to soundfestival in Aberdeen followed by a soundfestival performance at Royal Deeside Railway.

As a project it brings together artists, a train operator, volunteer steam enthusiasts and festivals at opposite ends of the United Kingdom to take this miniature marvel out to touch people. Whether stumbling across in on the street, hurtling through the countryside  on train,  clattering across hills on a streamline or watching intently in a studio space Belongings  exemplifies creativity, excellence and understanding of what makes a truly magnificent work of relevant opera for audiences today.
