staring at the bin

Beschreibung

Staring at the Bin is where the public, music, theatre & art directly meet, unannounced & unexpected. A collection of minuscule performances in public spaces, events so tiny they appear to be coincidences or strange chance occurrences.

Musical & theatrical events are seamlessly fused to life in urban spaces. Day to day life is framed & focussed as it provides the material for intimate interactions. Meeting eye to eye without an “art” context allows a new relationship, a direct response as all labels are removed, leaving space for ones own meaning. Something for nothing & unexplained, the events are unexpected, heightening awareness, stimulating a more immediate connection to surrounding people, places & occurrences.

Each performance for each place and each city is unique, adapting itself to the physical characteristics of the public spaces as well drawing on behaviours specific to that city or site.

Staring at the Bin is defining a new form of art which spans the genres of visual art, music & theatre. The project began at the Munich Biennale 2016 & new forms will be created for festivals around the world. By visiting different nations the project gains a sociological aspect in which behaviour & daily life in different places can be compared & contrasted. The accompanying exhibition will grow as documentation is added from each country. Behaviour & interaction between people from all walks of live, outside of traditional art spaces is the focus of this work.
