Orpheus Moments

Beschreibung

The piece is announced as a contemporary adaptation, a re-writing of the renowned myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. However, the performance can not take place as planned. The leading role singer slipped during a technical rehearsal before the show, fell down the stairs between Hades and the world of the living, and ended up in hospital with a broken leg. Everything that now happens on stage seems like a replacement, an attempt to explain to the audience what happened and what should have happened, that in the end surprisingly still ends up to be a music-theatre-piece.
The Artistic Team of the opera first acts out a “realistic” scene about  fictional events. Then, in the second part, four singers (Eurydike, the Singer, the Composer and the Technician) re-enact the accident of the Orpheus-Singer and integrate “real” events into a fictional story. The basic structure of the piece consists of stretching the time-perception especially with the means of music to mirror the experience of an accident. To integrate the notion of the “real” the piece is referring to circumstances of it’s production at the Biennale Musica College.
The result is a playful and comic piece that entertains and challenges the audience with a new way of looking at a performance: the accident, the unexpected has become a part of the narrative of Orpheus, and of the personal narratives of everyone involved.
