The Winter's Tale

Beschreibung

The Hermes Experiment’s radical new version of The Winter’s Tale combines four musicians, five actors and Shakespeare’s original text into a searingly intense treatment of the play combining sound, music, word and movement.  Its two performances at The Cockpit Theatre and Tête a Tête: The Opera Festival were described as ‘a boldly ingenious experiment’ (The Reviews Hub) ‘skilfully crafted’ (London Theatre 1) and ‘brilliantly summing up the gist of the original’.  The musical nature of the play lends itself to a fluidity between the musicians and the actors, and the music itself is in part composed, in part devised, and in part improvised, all in response to the demands of the text and the drama.  As a group dedicated to pushing the boundaries of their craft, The Hermes Experiment together with composer Kim Ashton and director Nina Brazier have created a unique devising technique where actors and musicians collaborate equally to create not a play with music, but an organic marriage of the two art forms through Shakespeare’s plot and words.
