In Nomine Lucis

Beschreibung

It is a concert for ensemble, live electronics and light installation. A live performance of works by Giacinto Scelsi including 8 new electronic compositions by Luigi De Angelis and Sergio Policicchio.
The 8 electronic compositions explore the universe of sound of the composer Giacinto Scelsi, his tactile, bodily approach to music, the physicality of musical improvisation and it’s subtle, magmatic, underground dimension. The electronic compositions are mainly based on the low and infra-low frequencies: by making use of the whole range of low frequencies speakers and echoing also other compositions by Scelsi (for example Okanagon, In Nomine Lucis, Wo-ma), emerges in the sound landscape of his improvisation sessions, his obsessive recording activity and the reassembling of magnetic tapes.
In In Nomine Lucis the audience is not placed in a canonical front view set up but lays on deck chairs, listening in solitude and in a meditative dimension, through the low frequencies and the sound passing through them. The concert is conceived to be performed almost completely in the dark, with the exception of some epiphanies of light coming from the centre of the scene, from the platform where the ensemble is placed, as if they were subliminal trails of light, already present in the music and appearing from time to time, real reverberations of musical light. The light design is programmed by a dedicated software, as ii was an instrument of the orchestra score or Scelsi’s music itself.
