Troja(n)

Beschreibung

The idea of creating Troja(n) was to bring to the classical ballet some fresh air. The language of the classical ballet is not abandon here, but is broken. Project is based on a story of fall of Troy (Troja – in Polish) and is exploring the meaning of a myth today. The concept comes from the multi-layered ruins of the historical Troy discovered by Schliemann. The city was repeatedly demolished and rebuilt, and thus the fate of its inhabitants was multiplied. Troy became for us a universal symbol of cities that met a similar fate: they disappeared from the face of the earth or were depopulated due to a conflict or a decision taken by rulers. Why this happens? The conclusion is that violence is inscribed in us like a virus (e.g. Trojan Virus) transmitted from generation to generation. Like a mistake in the code. All components of the performance (music, choreography, set and projection) are infected/disturbed to show the meaning. The predominant element of music is its repetitiveness, as often its subsequent repetitions combine with an increase of the instrumental cast. Two layers are combined: one written as a traditional score, and the second originating in the recording of subsequent orchestra sections, producing various sonoristic effects in the controlled aleatorism technique, then processed on the computer. The disruptions appear mainly as inclusions of a percussion instrument, from which the sound is extracted in a non-standard way.
