Flore Withering is a young woman who has set her sights on show business, but without much hope. She meets Martin, an unsuccessful young actor who really hates Karl, another actor more gifted and luckier. Martin manipulates Flora, telling her how her mother was institutionalized when she was a child by Karl’s father, and thus awakening the old family hatred. To avenge her mother, who sank into insanity, Flore poisons Karl after seducing him at a party where Martin introduced them. Guilt-ridden, Flore drinks the rest of the poison a short time before her arrest. She dies in the police station, wondering whether Martin might be the real murderer, because he did everything he could to draw suspicion towards her. With Karl’s and then Flore’s death, Martin is killing two birds with one stone: he is the grandson of an actress whose life fell apart after the murder of her lover. And this time, the poisoner was Flore’s grandmother.
