In the face of the illness of her little daughter, a father decides to appeal to a cryopreservation procedure to avoid the death of her body and wait for the cure of the disease. But what about the girl's soul? In what limbo is it confined? And what about the father's soul?
Inspired by a true story, this opera breaks down its own foundations and asks for survival beyond the tangible: the memory of a body, its invisible traces, its vibration. Faced with the invariable rules of death: the indomitable reasons of grief and love, even through the crudest of hybris and the most incomprehensible of resistances.
La niña helada (The frozen little girl) was commissioned by the first International Music Theatre Competition Darmstadt and its first eight scenes were presented at the Staatheater Darmstadt in 2016 during the International Summer Courses for New Music (Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik). Then, in 2017, the full work was presented at the Recoleta Cultural Center in Buenos Aires with ten sold out performances. It was a success for new opera to expend its own boundaries into new audiences and create the possibility for a professional independent production in a country where there is not such tradition. We deeply hope to continue our way of growing this work around the world.
