Weltatem is a music-theatre experience, in which the audience is invited to explore their own voice. Through an interactive VR experience the audience is taken on a journey. From soft breathing exercises to careful humming, ending in a full voiced melody in which suddenly the audience experiences they are singing together with a real-life choir. A second group of audience members is watching the almost shamanistic process of people discovering their own sound. After the experience of the first group, the groups switch, and both get the chance to experience these different viewpoints. Weltatem is a unique experience in which different worlds meet. Above being a new way of introducing technology into the theatrical realm. It is also the first VR experience, which is truly being controlled by your own voice. A performance in which opera and the virtual world merge.
How, in times of screens and a-social interfaces we can go back to the nature of our own sound. Although the whole world is connected we might experience a lot of disconnection. Old school media like opera and singing can shed new light on our lives and relationships
And build a bridge from a solo Virtual Reality trip. To a communal, shared experience.
