Theater o.N.'s engagement with the genre of music theatre began in 2016 in the form of a co-production with the Deutsche Oper Berlin ("Little Piece of Heaven“, premiere: 3/19/2016). Subsequently we decided together with the opera to continue the cooperation and to make "music theatre for the very young" a focal point of the FRATZ Symposium 2017. In this context, the team of „Schnürchen“ (Tiny Twine) first started working together. In the final production the feeling of a laboratory is kept up.
The young audience is invited to follow the experiments of the three sorcerer's apprentices in a magical sound room. The various materials they brought into the laboratory, everyday objects such as marbles, water glasses or plates, musical instruments and poetic-abstract paper objects, are examined with the help of microphones and loudspeakers. The performers communicate with each other and with the audience via the objects and sounds. The result is a sound collage, a concert that follows a fixed dramaturgy but allows the freedom to improvise in the individual musical scenes. At the end of the performance, which lasts about half an hour, the children can explore the instruments for themselves. They can experiment extensively with it, imitate or elicit completely new sounds from the objects. Tiny Twine was created in a collective process, the composers are also performers on stage, an approach that is very well suited for development processes in music theatre for very young audiences.
