VIVID STREAM Explores the pathway and meaning of the life of an artist through the metaphor of a stream. In particular it reflects on the paradoxical life of the Birmingham based playwright John Drinkwater who created Abraham Lincoln for The Birmingham Old Rep in 1918. This play forms the starting point for Susannah’s scored opera Quilt Song which premieres on 19th and 20th October 2018 at 7.00pm at The Birmingham Old Rep.
VIVID STREAM is sourced from Quilt Song but also stands separately exploring a performance model which is not solely driven by narrative or ‘neat’ resolution. It is an ‘Installation Opera’ designed to ‘play’ outside a traditional theatrical context so that audiences are free to move around the space and interface with the ‘operatic’ on their own terms. The centre 3 movements STREAM, BREATH and SHORE are a guitar concerto for three guitars accompanied by soundscape rather than orchestra.
