War - War, a musical and dramatic composition based on the preserved texts and score by E.F. Burian, one of the most significant representatives of the Czech interwar avant-garde. The play is directed by Jaroslava Šiktancová together with choreographer Martin Pacek. The entertaining playfulness of some sequences evokes the cruel fatefulness of war.
Reviews:
They play not only with their skill, but with their youth. For the rediscovered War they engage their lithe bodies in fluent and dramatic movements and statuesque positions. Some sing well, others brilliantly. What springs forth from them is the joy in acting and playfulness that Burian admired in folk poetry and song.

Jaroslava Šiktancová and the students have approached Burian's scenic collage in an intimate way. Compared to Burian's direction there is also a marked shift in the acting, away from declamation and expressive faces to a more civil and quieter display. Not only this, however changes the message of War; it is also changed by the very fact that is is played by students who belong to a generation unmarked by totalitarianism, military conflict or even compulsory military service. Today the audience members have to decide whether to take it as a glimpse of a time long gone, or whether they can find their own parallels to the present day in the stage pictures.
