Dance Through the Fence - The production arose as part of Archa Theatre's long-term project Dialogues on Escape, involving professional artists, asylum seekers and foreingers who have found a new home in the Czech Republic. The result is a theatrical mosaic which tells the authentic stories of refugees from Chechnya, Burma, Georgia and Kurdistan. Their fates and life stories are confronted with the reality of everyday life in their new country. They frequently find themselves in curious, sometimes comic and often tragic situations. Each of the stories arose from close dialogue between an immigrant and a performer (an actor or dancer). The actor becomes the messenger or tool of the message, the foreigner the producer of his or her own story. In this way some very intimate statements were created by people with unsettled lives, told by each actor or dancer in an original way. The director and autor of the project, Jana Svobodová, was aided by writer Hana Androniková, who gave each of the authentic stories a dramatic arch. The audience members see the short solo performances in various orders. One person might see stories with a good beginning and a bad ending, while for others a tragedy at the beginning will end happily. The performance is puncuated by musical numbers produced by American musician and theatre performer Michael Romanyshyn for an international community of musicians, The All Star Refjúdží Band.
