Desire – A meeting on stage between body and clothes. A production based on work with costumes, the human body and music. Dressing a girl in the layers of a wedding dress uncovers a story of a woman’s path through life, her sufferings, joys and endless desire.
A visual movement performance based on work with costumes, the human body and accordion music. The
authors were inspired by the significance of dress in the wedding ritual, and they investigated its transformation, which isn’t that simple. The title of the project, ‘Tužba,’ might seem a strange choice, as if there were a grammatical mistake. Is it a distortion of the more usual word for desire, ‘touha?’ Or does it come from the word ‘tužit se,’ to toughen or harden oneself?... and where do our desires lead us, anyway?
The production was created by Studio Damúza with the support of the Motus civic association in the Divadlo Alfred ve dvoře, as well as of the Czech Ministry of Culture. It is part of the Nová síť (New Network) 2006 project.
New Network provides production and advertising facilities for independent Czech stage art in the regions
of the Czech Republic and abroad. Its objectives are decentralisation, distribution and the creation of active relationships in the field of independent stage art. Working with local advisors, it aims to show the public work that would otherwise find it difficult to materialise in the regions, without organisational and financial suppport. The project was initiated in 2004 by the Motus civic association. The New Network selects several projects created over the past year and offers them a year of organisational assistance in order to help them be shown in regional theatres. It also focuses on smaller theatre facilities in the regions (small theatres, clubs, galleries, non-traditional spaces, cultural centres and so on), allowing them to include new independent artistic projects in their repertoire. Without such help, they might not ever learn of the existence of such projects, or might not have the financial capacity to present them. New Network is also the chief organiser of the touring festival Velká Inventura (The Big Inventory), which presents new independent work in the Czech regions throughout the year. It also works with the international network Junge Hunde, with Slovak cultural organisations like the Stanica association (Žilina) and A4–Nultý priestor (Bratislava) and partner organisations from Poland and Hungary.
