The festival’s concert finale, dedicated to Jiří Suchý and all theatrical songwriters.
Blues For You – Jiří Suchý – songwriter, composer, artist, actor, playwright and director – was born in Pilsen 75 years ago. Fifty years ago a group called Akord klub was born, and Suchý performed with it in Prague’s Reduta club. It was the Reduta which gave rise to the wave of ‘small theatres’ which swept through Czechoslovakia at the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1960s. One of the first was the legendary Semafor, which inspired a number of other newly-created groups to focus on music. The ‘Divadlo’ 2006 programme shows that Czech theatre still has a passion for good music. The closing concert is symbolically entitled Blues For You after one of Suchý’s first hits. We would like to dedicate the concert to Jiří Suchý and to all his predecessors and successors, who have composed and are still composing songs for the theatre.
