You who go Skiing
is based on the artist Martin Velíšek's book "Skiers" (Argo, 1997), which shows nude persons skiing. Velíšek found his inspiration in the mountains in the course of filming in the documentary "Spring, Hell, Autumn and Winter", while they waited for the right weather. "I'd had enough of boozing and I started to draw out of boredom," says Velíšek. And after returning home he had the idea that the situations he saw in the mountains could be moved into interiors or possibly into pools.

"The Book is not about sport," the artist emphasises. "Surely, skis came into being to make it easier for a person to move around. The fact that some chaps then started to measure the time in which they were able to go a certain distance is something quite different."

The White Theatre first introduced their risque skiers in 1997 at the "Next Wave" festival of alternative theatre in Prague. The response to that performance contributed to the choice of this title which became the most popular among all productions of the Ostravian company. The White Theatre has given successful guest performances of this production abroad, too, including at the MIMOS festival in Périgueux, France.

Drawings, "restored" on stage, in a way become even more eloquent. A group of six nude (and not well-preserved) actors, moving clumsily around the stage on obsolete skis, represent a reality which is shocking in its complete openness and sincerity. It is a reality unveiled and fascinating in such a way that it seems almost absurd and laughable. (...) In this production, the White Theatre clearly develops Velíšek' attitude of bizarre and heterogeneous connections (skis and naked bodies): skis and the stage, naked bodies and the stage, the music of a string quartet (placed at the edge of stage) and the "brutal" reality of theatrical events. However, it is the naked skiers that remain the focus of "You Who Go Skiing". In a way they represent a sort of poetry.

Na podzim roku 1997 měla v Praze v Roxy na Příátí vlně (Next wave) premiéru hra Ty, který lyþujeá podle kreseb výtvarníka Martina Velíáka.
Je to účinná groteskní zkratka absurdity þivota.
Z počátku áok, vzápětí úlevný černý smích z nemotorného úsilí postav, posléze katarzní mráz v zádech a pocit síly breughelovské morality.
Žádná bezúčelná exhibice, ani snobská spekulace, ani pobízivost, váe má své přesné dávkování a silné vyznění.
