This is one of the Netherlands’ best and funniest groups. Knuckles is a tribute to the raw poetry of the pound, the hallucinogenic effect of the uppercut and the honest craft of strangulation. Knuckles is the continuation of a good conversation by other means. Knuckles is turbo theatre and power-mime in a complex wrestle, a cubistic haiku of movement and cartoon violence. Knuckles is a jolly scuffle. Bambie is Jochem Stavenuiter and Paul van der Laan's movement theatre group. With different guest performers, they create physical shows that are frenetic and poetic, naùve and cruel, crude and refined. A Bambie performance is rich in fantasy but precise in “choreography”. Tranquil images alternate with explosive acts, savage struggles with tender embraces. With unexpected twists and turns they continually keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The point of departure is the body as the mirror of the human soul. Impulses and urges, dreams and frustrations are magnified to the extreme up until the characters on stage almost collapse.
