In 2010 Teater NO99 created the fictitious political movement NO75 Unified Estonia assembly, which was taken for a real political force by a lot of people in Estonia. The ‘movement’ combined performing arts, politics, media and civil society. It lasted for 44 days – from the first press conference to the founding assembly of the fictitious party, whre 7000 people attended. During this time a film team followed the events. NO55 Ash and Money is the first film project by Theatre NO99. It is a full length making-of documentary that sheds light on how NO75 Unified Estonia came to be, interviews the people behind the project and also many political figures in office at the time and looks into how the process of creating this contemporary performing arts event evolved in real time. Unified Estonia shows the fears and hopes, the manipulations and dissapointments connected with how politics is made in contemporary democracies. The documentary shows the full variety of emotions and turns that the creators of Unified Estonia experienced during their experiment between real life politics and performance art.
