IN SPRING 2020 THE MUSICAL MISS YELLOW FINALLY HITS HAMBURG, GERMANY’S HEART FOR MUSICALS. 

Already before its premiere, Miss Yellow has attracted the public attention as the lovestory of the 21st century. The producers are busily searching for its female lead, she shall be sweet like a peach and as spicy as a dragon lady. The performance group Olivia Hyunsin Kim/ddanddarakim has taken this audition notice seriously and brought Miss Yellow and Me – I Wanna Be A Musical , a musical talent show into life. Asian stereotypes and exotifying clichés are being playfully satirized and at the same time explored as tools for self-empowerment.

OLIVIA HYUNSIN KIM graduated from the Master of Choreography and Performance at the Institute of Applied Theatre Studies Gießen and HfMDK Frankfurt with distinction. Together with other artists she collaborates as ddanddarakim. Recently, she has been exploring the theme of exotification of non-white, “other” bodies in the MeMe Series. she came, she saw, she said: meme (part 1) and MeMe – I see. Ah! (part 2) have been shown at Sophiensæle, Mousonturm Frankfurt, Museo Universitario del Chopo among other venues and selected as one of the best works in Hessia.

IM FRÜHJAHR 2020 WIRD IN HAMBURG, DER MUSICAL METROPOLE AN DER ELBE, DAS NEUE HITMUSICAL MISS YELLOW PRODUZIERT.

Schon jetzt spricht man von der wegweisenden Liebesgeschichte des 21. Jahrhunderts. Doch bevor es so weit kommt sind die Produzent_innen eifrig auf der Suche nach der neuen Miss Yellow, süß wie eine Aprikose muss sie sein und scharf wie eine Dragon Lady. Olivia Hyunsin Kim/ddanddarakim haben diese Ausschreibung ernst genommen und mit Miss Yellow and Me – I Wanna Be A Musical eine Musical-Talentshow ins Leben gerufen. Asiatische Stereotypen und exotisierende Klischees werden sowohl auf’s Korn genommen als auch auf ihr Potential als Mittel der Selbstermächtigung erprobt.

OLIVIA HYUNSIN KIM schloss ihren Master in Choreografie und Performance am Institut für Angewandte Theaterwissenschaft Gießen und der HfMDK Frankfurt mit Auszeichnung ab. Als ddanddarakim arbeitet sie mit verschiedenen Künstler_innen kollaborativ zusammen. Miss Yellow and Me – I Wanna Be A Musical ist der letzte Teil der MeMe-Serie, die sich mit dem Exotismus im Bezug auf nicht-weiße, „andere“ Körper beschäftigt. she came, she saw, she said: meme (Teil 1) und MeMe – I see. Ah! (Teil 2) wurden u.a. in den Sophiensælen, Mousonturm Frankfurt, Museo Unversitario del Chopo Mexico gezeigt und als eines der besten Stücke Hessens ausgewählt.
