The View From Here is a multi-disciplinary collaboration in choreography, sound, text, video and design, performed by five dancers, a lecture performer and live composer/musician.
The collaboration between Choreographer Sandra Parker, and Berlin-based artists, Steven Heather and Siegmar Zacharias began in 2003 and was inspired by the vast difference in the geographical location of where these artists work. The experiences of travel ' cultural displacement, disconnection and estrangement ' were expanded through a creative development residency at the Sophiensaele in Berlin, Germany in June 2005. The Sophiensaele is a leading production house for independent contemporary theatre, dance and music in Germany. The View From Here premiered in Melbourne, August 2005, at the St Kilda Memorial Hall.
The View From Here searches for what connects us as people. The View From Here is about themes of travel, proximity and distance, how we hold images of people and places in our memory, consciousness, and physical body. Through text, sound, visual imagery and movement, the work investigates how stories and theories define our search for connection to people and place, and how we can transcend space and time both through our imagination and physical efforts.
