Mountains Never Meet, a work by Sydney-based choreographer Martin del Amo, is an exploration of how the simplest of rules can produce infinitely complicated results by simplifying the movement material yet retaining a maximum level of complexity in relation to time and speed. As a result, his work just involves skipping, running, jumping and walking. Describing his work del Amo said that juxtaposing order and disorder, clarity and randomness, hinted at a darker, more absurd reality of human existence and the futility of striving for clarity and meaning in a world that offers neither.
Red Lipstick Manifesto, is very complex in movement. The work explores the interest of the choreographer in the tawdry sadness of our lives and what it is like to feel both swamped by existence and emptied by it. Leach said: “The body is a vessel or a site for the paradox of living with animations that are both terrible and beautiful.”
Two lies examines the paradox of memory and the light and dark contained in past experience. The simplicity of childhood and a disturbing adult sensuality are contrasted in two versions of a story, revealing the deceiving aspects of recollection.
