When our heart breaks, how many parts does it split into? Do we then share the pieces of our hearts with others without realizing it? Are love, sharing, and heartbreak separated from each other, or are they linked together?

no c o r a ç ã o dela explores heartbreak, romance and its cheesiness, and the process of mending a broken heart. The project delves into how these individual feelings are profoundly collective experiences that defy quantification. Rather than isolating heartache as a private, internalised experience, no c o r a ç ã o dela investigates how these emotions connect us: how we impact those around us and how they influence us. How do our hearts transform through love and loss? How do emotional fractures create new connections, forming a collective map of our experiences?

The artistic team uses dance, music, and storytelling to convey this collective journey of the heart. This goes from call and response, a freestyle dance floor practice brought in by Myriam Lucas and DJs Vanyfox and Shaka Lion, through okcandice’s writing on grief and Filipa Rocha Nunes’ field research on public policies and poetics, to the visual archive of the project by Rafaela Nato. The musicians, writers, and dancers merge their individual experiences of heartbreak with their artistic practices, creating a shared narrative of romance and loss. It abandons a vision of romance only meant for two, looking for a collective one, ready to embrace and address feelings of heartbreak and longing.

After Lounge (awarded with ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers’ Award 2023 and selected for Tanzplattform Deutschland 2024 and Impulse Theater Festival 2024), no c o r a ç ã o dela is the second co-production of Marga Alfeirão with Sophiensæle.

Marga Alfeirão (Lisbon,1994) uses media to carve safe spaces for the exploration of intimacy and sexuality through dance and performance. Heavily influenced by dance-genres and sound textures from the african diaspora disseminated through Lisbon’s social tissue, she delves into secrecy and disclosure of the feminine. Her first work Lounge – a lesbian lap dance duet – was awarded with the ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers’ Award 2023.

Wenn unser Herz bricht, in wie viele Teile zerfällt es? Geben wir dann die Bruchstücke unseres Herzens an andere weiter, ohne es zu merken? Sind Liebe, Teilen und Herzschmerz unabhängig voneinander, oder sind sie eng miteinander verwoben?

no c o r a ç ã o dela untersucht Herzschmerz, Romantik und den ihr eigenen Kitsch sowie den Prozess der Heilung eines gebrochenen Herzens. Die Arbeit geht davon aus, dass diese individuellen Gefühle im Grunde zutiefst kollektive Erfahrungen sind, die sich jeder Quantifizierung entziehen. Anstatt Liebeskummer als private, verinnerlichte Erfahrung zu isolieren, blickt no c o r a ç ã o dela darauf, wie diese Gefühle uns verbinden: wie wir auf andere einwirken und wie die anderen wiederum uns beeinflussen. Wie verändern Liebe und Verlust unsere Herzen? Wie schaffen emotionale Brüche neue Verbindungen und bilden eine kollektive Landkarte unserer Erfahrungen?

Das künstlerische Team nutzt Tanz, Musik und Geschichtenerzählen, um dieser kollektiven Reise des Herzens zu folgen. So lassen Myriam Lucas und die DJs Vanyfox und Shaka Lion die Freestyle-Praxis call and response in die Performance einfließen. okcandice schreibt über Trauer, Filipa Rocha Nunes betreibt Feldforschung zu öffentlicher Politik und Poetik und Rafaela Natos hat ein visuelles Archiv des Projekts geschaffen. Die Musiker*innen, Autor*innen und Tänzer*innen verbinden ihre persönlichen Erfahrungen von Liebeskummer mit ihren künstlerischen Praktiken und erschaffen dadurch eine gemeinsame Erzählung von Romantik und Verlust. Die Performance verabschiedet sich von der Vorstellung einer Romantik, die nur für zwei bestimmt ist, und strebt nach einer kollektiven Romantik, die bereit ist, Gefühle von Liebeskummer und Sehnsucht anzunehmen und anzusprechen.

Nach Lounge (ausgezeichnet mit dem ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers‘ Award 2023 und in der Auswahl für die Tanzplattform Deutschland 2024 und das Impulse Theater Festival 2024) ist no c o r a ç ã o dela die zweite Koproduktion von Marga Alfeirão mit den Sophiensælen.

Ihr erstes Werk Lounge – ein lesbisches Lapdance-Duett – wurde mit dem ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers‘ Award 2023 ausgezeichnet.
