Patience And Hunger

Ami Garmon’s real-life story book, Patience and Hunger, is a performance reflecting, remembering, revisiting and ultimately reclaiming ‘what we loved’. Like the relative who sits down to spin yarns about trinkets, relics and images, storytelling – out of sequence and through a range of media – was always Ami’s mission. Patience and Hunger creates divergences and convergences to convey life on stage, and the stages of life, love, loss, grief and even laughter to something approaching hilarity and unease.

Choreographer/performer/writer Ami Garmon, American, has lived and worked between France and Berlin since 1988 and moved permanently to Berlin in 2003. She creates mostly one-woman shows for theaters and museums, often collaborating with visual and sound artists in performance installations that are intensely visceral and poetic – immersive atmospheres for her writings, her voice and her dances. Her interest has always been on emotion and nostalgia. With a focus on writing, performance and precision of movement, her work stretches over diverse fields and media.
She has received generous support throughout the years from the Ministère de la Culture en France and Hauptstadtkulturfonds from Germany and co-productions with theaters in France, Berlin and Spain, the Institut Français in Bilbao, Berlin and Kyoto. Ami Garmons Arbeit reflektiert, erinnert, greift erneut auf und fordert zurück, „was wir liebten“. Ami sieht es als ihre Aufgabe, Geschichten zu erzählen, über Schmuckstücke, Reliquien und Bilder – außerhalb von Reihenfolge/Ordnung und durch das Nutzen einer Reihe von Medien.
„Patience and Hunger“ erschafft Abweichungen und Konvergenzen, um das Leben auf die Bühne zu bringen; die Stadien des Lebens, der Liebe, des Verlusts, der Trauer und sogar des Lachens und das, was an Heiterkeit und Unbehagen grenzt auf der Bühne sichtbar zu machen.

Ami Garmon ist eine amerikanische Choreografin, Performerin und Autorin, lebt und arbeitet seit 1988 in Frankreich und Berlin. 2003 zog sie dauerhaft nach Berlin. Sie kreiert vor allem One-Woman-Shows für Theater und Museen und arbeitet oft mit Bild- und Tonkünstlern zusammen, um Performance-Installationen zu schaffen, die sehr intensiv und poetisch sind – immersive Atmosphären für ihre Texte, ihre Stimme und ihre Tänze. Ihr Interesse galt schon immer den Emotionen und der Nostalgie. Ihr Schwerpunkt liegt auf dem Schreiben, der Performance und der Präzision der Bewegung, und ihre Arbeit erstreckt sich über verschiedene Bereiche und Medien.
