MEDIATHEK

The multidisciplinary performance is deconstructing and weaving together practices originating from contemporary dance and martial arts. The four protagonists of FISTS TO FLOWERS travel through states of resistance and complete surrender. Opposing forces wish to conquer one another, yet through the continuous collision they crumble and melt, giving space to intuitive exploration and vulnerability. Their body’s encounters receive new meanings: holding can be done with care, a flip or a throw can become a game of two animals. The physical relations between the performers shift between attachment and detachment. Rhythmical, highly physical sequences emerge and eventually bring them to exhaustion and catharsis.

FISTS TO FLOWERS is a production of Yotam Peled & the Free Radicals in co-production with LOFFT – DAS THEATER. Gefördert von der Stadt Leipzig, Kulturamt.

Yotam Peled & the Free Radicals acts as a project-based company engaging different freelancers, focusing on contemporary interdisciplinary creation, addressing topics of gender, power structures and community rituals. The ensemble was established in September 2018, following the creation of Entropia, as part of ‘THINK BIG’ project at the State Opera of Hannover. Out of our understanding of the need for sustainable, independent performance art, we aim to establish a relationship with our local community, built on mutual exchange and growth. The Free Radicals, therefore, focus on creating and touring in Europe and operate both in conventional and alternative spaces, and often engage in workshops, and site-specific productions. Our creative process and output are centered around the body and the potential of movement to transform social codes. Aspects of our existence which are often considered dark, inappropriate, or wild, receive space and treatment in our performances, both as a space for healing and critical reflection.  

The company’s independent creations include: ALPHA (2019), migrena2x2 (2021), fauna futura (2021), HEIMAT (2021), GET A GRIP (2021), Where the Boys Are (2023).

Die multidisziplinäre Performance FISTS TO FLOWERS dekonstruiert und verwebt Praktiken aus zeitgenössischem Tanz und Kampfkunst.  

Vier Performer*innen durchlaufen Zustände des Widerstands und der völligen Hingabe. Gegensätzliche Kräfte bezwingen sich gegenseitig; durch den ständigen Zusammenprall zerbröckeln und verschmelzen sie und eröffnen einen Raum für intuitive Erkundung und Verletzlichkeit. Die Begegnungen ihrer Körper erhalten neue Bedeutungen: Halten geschieht behutsam, ein Salto oder ein Wurf kann zu einem Spiel zweier Tiere werden. Die körperlichen Beziehungen bewegen sich zwischen Verbundenheit und Loslassen. So entstehen rhythmische, sehr körperliche Sequenzen, die schließlich zur Erschöpfung und Katharsis führen.

Yotam Peled & the Free Radicals versteht sich als projektbasierte Kompagnie, die mit verschiedenen Künstler*innen zusammenarbeitet. Sie konzentriert sich auf zeitgenössische interdisziplinäre Kreationen, die sich mit Themen wie Gender, Machtstrukturen und Gemeinschaftsritualen auseinandersetzt. Das Ensemble wurde im September 2018 nach der Gründung von Entropia als Teil des Projekts "THINK BIG" an der Staatsoper Hannover gegründet. Aus ihrem Verständnis für die Notwendigkeit nachhaltiger, unabhängiger Performancekunst heraus wollen sie eine Beziehung zu ihrer lokalen Gemeinschaft aufbauen. Free Radicals konzentriert sich daher auf das Produzieren und Touren in Europa und arbeitet sowohl in konventionellen als auch in alternativen Räumen, oft im Rahmen von Workshops und ortsspezifischen Produktionen. Im Mittelpunkt ihres kreativen Prozesses stehen der Körper und das Potenzial der Bewegung, soziale Codes zu verändern. Aspekte, die oft als dunkel oder unangemessen angesehen werden, erhalten in unseren Aufführungen Raum, sowohl für Heilung als auch für kritische Reflexion.

So sind unter anderem die Arbeiten ALPHA (2019), migrena2x2 (2021), fauna futura (2021), HEIMAT (2021), GET A GRIP (2021), Where the Boys Are (2023) entstanden.
