The trio “Weaver” by choreographer Anne-Mareike Hess is a choreographic round dance about the female body and its inevitable link to a history of violence and oppression, internalized over millennia. The image of weaving serves here as a metaphor for the connections between female fates across time and space, and serves as a choreographic basis along which the dancers’ bodies connect and empower themselves. Perhaps the net of violence can be broken?

After the solos Warrior (2018) and Dreamer (2021), the trio Weaver is the third dance piece in which the artist tries to fight her way through the tangle of stereotypical ideas of being a woman. In order to deconstruct gender roles, Anne-Mareike Hess explores female identity inspired by mythology and popular culture.

Anne-Mareike Hess is based in Luxembourg and Berlin and works as a choreographer and performer in the field of contemporary dance. In 2018 she founded the independent structure utopic productions, which receives funding from the Ministry of Culture in Luxembourg since 2020.
Since the beginning of her career as a choreographer, Anne-Mareike’s works have been shown at numerous venues and festivals throughout Europe and Canada. This includes a.o.: I believe that we are having a dialogue (2012), Tanzwut (2014) and Synchronization in process (2016). In 2017 Anne-Mareike was commissioned by the Théâtre d’Esch and the Grand Théâtre de la Ville de Luxembourg to create Give me a reason to feel.
Her first evening-long solo Warrior premiered at the end of 2018 and has been selected by AEROWAVES Twenty20.
In 2021 she premiered the one-on-one telephone project Through the wire and the solo Dreamer. Anne-Mareike works in close collaboration with TROIS C-L in Luxembourg, DOCKART in Berlin and Skogen in Gothenburg; and since 2016 she is an associate artist at Weld in Stockholm.
Between 2017-2019 Anne-Mareike was supported by the Grand Luxe network; and 2020 – 2023 she is an associate artist at Neimënster in Luxembourg.
Previously, she was awarded with the emerging artists prize “Stiftung zur Förderung junger Talente” (2012) and the “Danzpraïs” (2015) from the Ministry of Culture in Luxembourg.
Since 2007 Anne-Mareike has worked as a performer with choreographers such as William Forsythe (Human Writes), Eeva Muilu, Rosalind Goldberg (MIT & Jump with me), Ingri Fiksdal (Cosmic body), Heinrich Horwitz (Nijinsky) and Antje Velsinger (PERFORM!), with which she has performed in a number of prestigious venues around the world.
Alongside her work as a choreographer and dancer, she is working as an artistic advisor, coach and teacher. In autumn 2019 Anne-Mareike has been invited to teach as a guest at the Korean National University of Arts School of Dance (Choreography).
Anne-Mareike received her education at the Conservatory and at TROIS C-L in Luxembourg, she continued her studies at the HfMDK in Frankfurt/Main and at HZT Inter-University Center for Dance in Berlin (Master in Choreography).

Das Trio „Weaver“ der Choreografin Anne-Mareike Hess ist ein choreografischer Reigen über den weiblichen Körper und seine Verbindung zu einer über Jahrtausende verinnerlichten Geschichte von Gewalt und Unterdrückung.

Das Bild des Webens dient dabei als Metapher für die Verbindungen weiblicher Schicksale über Zeit und Raum hinweg, und außerdem als choreografische Grundlage, entlang derer sich die Körper der Tänzerinnen miteinander verbinden und sich selbst ermächtigen. Kann das Netz der Gewalt durchbrochen werden?

Anne-Mareike Hess lebt in Luxemburg und Berlin und arbeitet als Choreografin und Performerin im Bereich des zeitgenössischen Tanzes. Sie begann ihre Ausbildung am Konservatorium und am TROIS C-L in Luxemburg und setzte ihre Studien an der HfMDK in Frankfurt am Main und am HZT Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum für Tanz in Berlin fort. 2018 gründete sie utopic productions, die seit 2020 vom luxemburgischen Kulturministerium gefördert wird. Ihre Arbeiten wurden an zahlreichen Orten und auf Festivals in ganz Europa und Kanada gezeigt. Ihr erstes abendfüllendes Solo „Warrior“ wurde Ende 2018 uraufgeführt und von AEROWAVES Twenty20 ausgewählt. 2021 hat sie das Einzeltelefonprojekt „Through the wire“ und das Solo „Dreamer“ uraufgeführt. Anne-Mareike arbeitet eng mit TROIS C-L in Luxemburg, DOCKART in Berlin und Skogen in Göteborg zusammen; seit 2016 ist sie Associate Artist bei Weld in Stockholm. 2017 bis 2019 wurde Anne-Mareike vom Grand Luxe Netzwerk unterstützt; 2020 – 2023 ist sie assoziierte Künstlerin bei Neimënster in Luxemburg. 2012 erhielt sie den Nachwuchspreis der „Stiftung zur Förderung junger Talente“ und 2015 den „Danzpraïs“ des luxemburgischen Kulturministeriums. Zusammenarbeit als Performerin u.a. mit Choreograph*innen wie William Forsythe, Eeva Muilu, Rosalind Goldberg, Ingri Fiksdal, Heinrich Horwitz und Antje Velsinger. Neben ihrer Arbeit als Choreografin und Tänzerin ist sie als künstlerische Beraterin, Coach und Lehrerin tätig. Im Herbst 2019 wurde Anne-Mareike eingeladen, als Gast an der Korean National University of Arts School of Dance Choreografie zu unterrichten.
