In «She’s Constructing the Exit Signs (Hope & Delusion)» Liina Magnea addresses the emotional function of the musical and musical film and how it can offer itself as a coping strategy in hopeless times. The musical asylum penetrates reality, creating a delusional construction of a fairytale world, while the actual surrounding is sad and gloomy.

The alternative reality being created helps the hungry, worn-out protagonist to imagine itself as a character of a fictional narrative where everything is possible – the ultimate escape.

Obsessed with the idea of the immaterial Gesamtkunstwerk, LIINA MAGNEA combines music, movement, film dramaturgy and internet scrolling into shape shifting performances.

She studied fine art at HFBK in Hamburg and Rietveld in Amsterdam and graduated at HZT Berlin in choreography and dance. Her work has been shown at Volksbühne, Zodiak (Helsinki), KW Institute for Contemporary Art, among others. She composes music for film and television.

In «She’s Constructing the Exit Signs (Hope & Delusion)» widmet sich Liina Magnea der emotionalen Funktion des Musicals und wie dieses sich in hoffnungslosen Zeiten als Bewältigungsstrategie anbietet. Das musikalische Asyl durchdringt die Realität und konstruiert wahnhaft eine märchenhafte Welt, während unsere Wirklichkeit trist und düster bleibt.

Die alternative Realität, die so geschaffen wird, hilft der ausgehungerten, erschöpften Figur in eine fiktive Erzählung einzutauchen, in der alles möglich ist – die ultimative Zuflucht.

Besessen von der Idee des immateriellen Gesamtkunstwerks, kombiniert LIINA MAGNEA Musik, Bewegung, Filmdramaturgie und Internet-Scrolling zu einer formverändernden, dynamischen Performance. Sie hat Kunst (HFBK in Hamburg und Rietveld in Amsterdam) und Choreografie (HZT Berlin) studiert und ihre Arbeiten u.a. in der Volksbühne Berlin, im Zodiak (Helsinki) und im KW Institute for Contemporary Art in Berlin gezeigt. Sie komponiert Musik für Film und TV.
