The double bill “Loops” brings together two interlinking choreographies, a solo and a trio. In “Scary solo” (2020) Cristina Caprioli, at once an old lady and a reckless child, looks for a groove, yet remains uncertain. Meanwhile the recurring work “Omkretz” from 2013, is looped once again. In “Omkretz2.22” (2022) two dancers and a live musician perform the thrill of speed, sharp edges and untamed dancing.

Tanz im August is devoting a major retrospective to Cristina Caprioli, the influential choreographer and pioneer of postmodernism in the Nordic countries. Since the early 1990s Italian-born Caprioli has challenged and extended the notion of choreography. In championing an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to research and creation, she has produced a prolific body of works spanning the domains of dance, film, text and installation. As a retrospective “ONCE OVER TIME” draws on over 22 works from 2002 to the present day and includes performances and one concert by 22 artistic collaborators. Across interactive settings and immersive spaces, audiences are invited to delve into Caprioli’s unique practice and philosophy, through which she continues to reimagine dance as a mode of thinking.

Premiered as a duet in 2014, Omkretz was performed 2015, 2016 in Stockholm, Växjö, Florence, Berlin, at MoMA PS1 NY, Annenberg Center Philadephia and Riksteatern Hallunda. Resumed in 2019, Omkretz became a solo, recurrently performed in the Hall in Stockholm Farsta. In 2020 Omkretz2 turned into yet another solo, Omkretz22, performed at Dansens Hus in Stockholm and on tour in Sweden. In 2022 the two solos are once again merging into a duet, hence the title Omkretz2.22.

Die Doppelvorstellung “Loops” präsentiert mit einem Solo und einem Trio zwei miteinander verbundene Stücke. In “Scary Solo” (2020) ist Cristina Caprioli gleichzeitig eine alte Frau und ein leichtsinniges Kind, sie sucht nach ihrem Rhythmus und bleibt doch verunsichert zurück. Hingegen wird das wiederkehrende Werk “Omkretz” von 2013 erneut geloopt: Zwei Tänzer:innen und ein Musiker spielen in “Omkretz2.22” (2022) mit dem Kick der Geschwindigkeit, markanten Linien und höchster Intensität.

ONCE OVER TIME – a retrospective

Tanz im August widmet der renommierten Choreografin und Pionierin des Postmodernismus in den nordischen Ländern, Cristina Caprioli, eine umfassende Retrospektive. Seit mehr als 20 Jahren bringt die gebürtige Italienerin Choreografie an ihre Grenzen und revolutioniert sie dabei immer wieder. Die vehemente Verfechterin interdisziplinärer und kollaborativer Arbeitsweisen hat ein umfassendes Œuvre hervorgebracht, das Tanz, Filme, Texte und Installationen umfasst. Die Retrospektive “ONCE OVER TIME” zeigt gemeinsam mit 22 künstlerischen Weggefährt:innen über 22 Arbeiten, die zwischen 2002 und heute entstanden sind. Interaktive Settings und immersive Räume ermöglichen es dem Publikum, ganz in Capriolis einzigartige künstlerische Praxis und Philosophie einzutauchen – und zu erleben, wie diese Ausnahmechoreografin Tanz als Denkmodus immer wieder neu erfindet.
