With “Mailles” Rwandan­-British choreographer, singer and author Dorothée Munyaneza gathers on stage with five women who, as poets, performance artists, flamenco dancers, singers and choreographers, have inspired her in a multitude of ways. Living dispersed across the globe and stemming from mixed cultural backgrounds, they are part of the diaspora, each of them African or of African descent: Haitian, Rwandan, Danish born Somali, Ethiopian living in the Netherlands and British. They are united by their stories of adversity and resilience. Interweaving their distinct voices in a universal tale, Munyaneza captures in them the beauty of an undefeated, feminine force of creation.

Mit “Mailles” versammelt die ruandisch-britische Choreografin, Sängerin und Autorin Dorothée Munyaneza fünf Frauen auf der Bühne, die sie als Dichterinnen, Performancekünstlerinnen, Flamenco-Tänzerinnen, Sängerinnen und Choreografinnen in vielerlei Hinsicht inspiriert haben. Sie sind auf der ganzen Welt verstreut und mit ihren vielfältigen kulturellen Hintergründen Teil der Diaspora. Sie sind entweder Afrikanerinnen oder afrikanischer Herkunft: Sie kommen aus Haiti, Ruanda, Großbritannien, sind mit somalischem Hintergrund in Dänemark geboren oder leben als Äthiopierin in den Niederlanden. Sie sind verbunden durch ihre Geschichten von Adversität und Resilienz. Indem Munyaneza ihre einzigartigen Stimmen miteinander verflechtet, schafft sie eine universelle Erzählung, welche die Schönheit einer unbesiegten, weiblichen Schöpfungskraft einfängt.
