FLOCKS & SHOALS are a Berlin based Collective of International artists working together since 2010 developing and presenting dance performance projects. Concerned with methods of construction and discussion of stage arts events, our practice relates to “dynamics of movement in nature and society. From this engagement we build relations on scene that embrace the awareness of multiple perspectives of the contemporary body in reference to the overwhelming amount of information breaking through our current times. Along the process of revisiting archetypes in order to establish moving visions on scene, we compose a map of (universal) references, collective memories, human (e)motions; a territory that enables a specific artistic discourse, developed along a structure of incorporation – recondition – embodiment: The nature of things – our main point of departure is the observation of the ethos / substance of events such as large groups of animals in movement, urban space organisation and types of human behaviour when individualised and when forming crowds; Architecture of bodies – the performative body is uncharged of meaning and social attributes in order to explore different physicality’s and emotional features, in a continuous morphic transformation. Translation – in each piece, the process of unfolding our cosmology is redeveloped as a “mother board, a set of geographic coordinates of actions, relations, visions and (e)motions, overlapped and repositioned through the time being. The reflection about these questions and issues on stage, subjects of dynamic, vibration and luminosity, become an aesthetic experience, where the audience has the space to bring up a singular and deepen perception over the whole happening.
