Jiří Nekvasil (b. 1962) - In 1989 graduated in opera direction froom the musical faculty of AMU, where he studied with Ladislav Stros. In 1988 he and set designer Daniel Dvořák founded "Opera Furore", an experimental opera theatre. Two years later they were both, as stage managers, entrusted with running the "Prague Chamber Opera", which they reorganised to become "Opera Mozart". From 1998 Nekvasil was the artistic head, dramaturg and director at the "State Opera in Prague". From 2002 till 2006 he was the head of opera at the National Theatre. In his career so far, Nekvasil has directed almost seventy operas and plays. Nekvasil has worked abroad (Germany, Argentina, France, the US, Latvia, Ireland, Norway, Slovakia and Finland). He also works with Czech Television, taking part in the creation of musical programmes (of which he has directed over a hundred). He has also filmed several operas for Czech Television, among the most notable being his versions of works by Martinů - the mechanical ballet "The Remarkable Flight" and the opera "The Tears of the Knife" and "The Voice of the Forest" won several awards: the Golden Crystal at the Golden Prague international television festival in 1999, the Grand Prix at the Festival of Screening Stage Arts and the Most Original Direction prize.
