www.velvetvelvet.be Velvet company was founded in 1994 by Joanne Leighton. Belgian-Australian nationality, Joanne Leighton was trained in dance at Melbourne. She then danced with the Australian Dance Theater, the main contemporary dance company in Australia. While working as a dancer, Joanne Leighton early created his own works. Following a scholarship, she comes to London, where she created several shows hosted at the Plaza Theater. Known for his teaching skills, she was invited to lecture at the Royal Theatre La Monnaie. Open to all, then these courses promote meetings with emerging choreographers of the time: Vandekeybus, Anne Theresa De Keersmaeker, Michèle Anne De Mey, Nadine Ganase ... They will invite to come and teach in their own company. These exchanges and dynamism in contemporary dance Joanne Leighton decided to settle in the capital. His career as a choreographer is closely linked to a vision of the original dance, dynamic and evolving in a constant desire for dialogue and exchange. The choreographer maintains this philosophy and commitment with all of its dancers and artistic collaborators. Currently, Joanne Leighton has to his credit twenty dance productions. In Belgium, Velvet shows were presented at the Balsam, the Halles de Schaerbeek, Wolubilis in Brussels at the Théâtre de la Place in Liège, at the Cultural Center of Kortrijk ... Abroad, Kampnagel in Hamburg, at the Pole South at Strasbourg, the Hivernales Avignon, Le Havre in Volcano, at the Biennale de la Danse Val de Marne, and Lithuania, Latvia, Italy, Spain, Australia ... She was also invited to choreograph for structures such as the Dance Theatre of Ireland and Charleroi / Danses.
