Information

The Norwegian-Belgian artist Mette Edvardsen (1970) started her career at Les Ballets C. de la B., where she worked in productions by Hans Van den Broeck (1992-2000) and Christine De Smedt (2000-2005). In addition to this she was involved in projects by Thomas Hauert/ZOO, Thomas Lehmen, Lynda Gaudreau, Mårten Spångberg, Bock & Vincenci, Lilia Mestre and others. Together with Heine R. Adval, Liv Hanne Haugen and Lawrence Malstaff she created the performance-installation Sauna in Exile at the Nordic Scene Festival in Brussels (2002). Private collection (2002) was her first solo work, followed by the video Stills (2002) and the solo performance Time will show (2004 and a new version in 2007) in which she questions the logical sequence of cause and effect. Edvardsen’s work frequently alternates between performance, theatre, dance and installation, so that the artist abandons the usual stage setting and confronts the audience. In Opening (2005/2006) for example, Edvardsen reacts to elements in her surroundings and seeks ways to deal with this material. In the installation The way / you move (2006) she examines how people move in space and how space affects them. Her first group work, or else nobody will know, will had its opening performance in November 2007. (Quelle: Vlaams Theater Instituut)
