Janusz Klimsza (b. 1961) comes from Frýdek-Místek and initially studied acting in Wroclaw. After Poland declared martial law in 1981 he continued at the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, graduating as a director. For eleven years he worked at the Těšín Theatre, where his productions included Czarna Julka, for which he gained the main Broken Latch award at the ‘Na Hranici’ (On the Border) international theatre festival. He has been guest director at a number of theatres in the Czech Republic (Opava, Kladno, Olomouc, Ostrava and Prague) and Poland. After Český Těšín he headed for Ostrava’s Petr Bezruč Theatre, becoming its artistic head. He now holds the same position at the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava.
