Castro has directed the Portuguese National Theatre Porto with the following plays: Red,Black and ignorant by Edward Bond Chaos is near of God By Lars Noren and continues his work with the Portuguese National Theatre as a playwright. He directed Happy Days by Samuel Beckett and Catogorie 3.1 By Lars Noren for the European Capital of Culture Porto 2001. He directed Danton s Death by Buchner for the International Acarte Festival Lissabon Gulbenkian He directed and acted in a solo Wake up Hate by Jan Fabre which toured to countries Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Iceland, Belgium and Australia He directed B.File (a co-prodution with Berlin and Portugal which was presented in the Adelaide Fringe festival 2007 and in La mama theatre in Melbourne.) He wrote and directed Nightingale (a play based on Pasolini) for the Festival Contemporanea- Madid. He directed and performed the solo RED SKY which premiered in Berlin and was presented at the Adelaide Fringe 2007. He co-directed with Jo Stone two pieces: Congratulations which toured Germany and Portugal, and Dis-integration for DanceNorth in Townsville Queensland 2007. He worked with coreographer Vera Mantero for Montplier Festival France and for Centre Pompidou Paris,Kai theatre Brussels and Tanz quartier Viena. As an actor he worked for the National Theatre Portugal in plays of Pirandelo,Calderon de la Barca,Ionesco,Gil Vicente among others. As an freelancer for the last 5 years Paulo has directed two workshops through Vitalstatistix based on Heiner Muller and Edward Bond. He had been actor, director and writer for a lot of independent theatres in Portugal and recently perfomed in 'I ONLY CAME TO USE THE PHONE' by Gabriel Garcia Marquez directed by Netta Yaschin (Adelaide Fringe 08). Paulo received the award for Best Director in Portugal in 1996 and has recently been nominated for the Green Room Awards Melbourne for Best Director 2007 and Best prodution with B-File.
