Information

yrki Karttunen’s (b. 1969) career comprises several phases and trends. According to Jyrki, only two things have persisted: his native dialect of North Carelia and his tendency to intensely observe people. All the different influences that have cumulated during Jyrki’s career can be seen in his works. Jyrki has danced in the works of several contemporary choreographers and they all have left their mark. His recognisable movement language also shows traces of jazz dance, classical ballet, modern dance and musicals. Jyrki’s works are built on tensions between contradicting elements. The performances combine abstract components with theatrical scenes. Movement compositions, choreographed with mathematic precision, are dissolved by surprising and playful twists. Strange and confusing events alternate with tender moments of togetherness. The basis for it all is Jyrki’s genuine interest towards people and their behaviour. In his works the performers look straight at the audience: “Hello, how lovely that you could make it! The performances offer a possibility to stop for a moment and collectively admire how magical life really is. (Quelle: http://www.karttunenkollektiv.fi/jyrki/people/) egd
