Professor, dancer and choreographer, KIM Sun-hee began her ballet training at the age of 9 with UM Young-ja at Gwangju and continued her education at Ewha Woman's University in Seoul, Korea and received M.F.A at New York University(Tisch School). She also studied Dance Pedagogy at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. As a professional dancer, she performed with such dance companies as the Korean National Ballet Company, New York Colloquium Dance Company, etc and awarded first prizes at many Korean Ballet competitions. Since 1981 she began to create her own works such as , and . Seeking to combine the movements of the Korean traditional dance with those of classical ballet she staged , , etc. From 1985 onwards she taught in many Korean universities and from 1992 till 1994 - in the Brussels Conservatory. She worked as a professor at the Korean National University of Arts, School of Dance, and dean of Pre-school, the KNUA from 1996. Since 1993 she has been representative of the A. Vaganova Ballet Academy Korean Center. She is a member of the Board of UNESCO CID Dance Committee. She has served on the jury for the 4th Vaganova International Ballet Competition Vaganova-Prix in St. Petersburg, Russia, the 8th Paris International Dance Competition in 1998. She also was a jury member to the 19th International Ballet Competition-Varna 2000, 2004, 2010 and to the Prix de Lausanne in 2001. She was invited to XXVI Premio Miguel Covarrubias Concurso de Creación Coreográfica Contemporánea in Mexico to serve as a juror of this competition in November of 2006 and Cuba Havana International Dance Festival in 2008. She is continuing her dance life as a choreographer and a professor with high reputation and acknowledgment from the critic and students.
