Based in Toronto, Heidi Strauss is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and co-artistic director of Four Chambers dance project. Since 1994 she has worked as a performer and collaborator with choreographers and directors for stage, film and opera. Most recently she danced with Sylvain Emard Danse (Montreal), Fujiwara Dance Inventions, and Tribal Crackling Wind (Toronto). Her solo work has been presented in Europe and Canada. In 2006, she choreographed and performed in the Frankfurt Opera’s version of Through Roses. Her solo AtLast,(2005) received a Dora Award nomination for choreography; the Four Chambers/Déjà Donné commission Rustling Shadows received a Dora nomination for performance She has given workshops in the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, and in many Canadian cities. Strauss has created numerous works for The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and Ryerson University, as well as young companies and collectives. Recently she has worked as a movement coach for Necessary Angel Theatre Company, choreographer for the Canadian Opera Company and rehearsal director for Chartier Danse and O Vertigo.
