Choreograf und Tänzer Ivo Serra was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1979 and studied acting at the Professional Theater School of Cascais, Portugal, where he acted in theater and movies. In 2003, he was invited by the Bomba Suicida collective to become a resident artist, where he performed and danced in the works of other resident artists. His first creation was a video/dance, and after that Serra started to develop his own work/performances combining video with stage. Ivo Serra left the association in 2008 with "Canvas", a performance collaboration in Temps d' Image Festival at Culturgest, Lisbon, Portugal. From 2005 until 2009, he studied and developed work at the Video and New Media Department at Ar.co, a Fine Arts College in Lisbon, Portugal. In 2007/2009, he worked with the choreographer João Fiadeiro in RE_AL, Lisbon, to develop his video archive, and also filmed and edited his studies projects, providing a visual context for Fiadeiro’s "Real Time Composition research. Co-lead the video documentation of Festival Festa da Dança 08, provided video material to the Program of Studies, Research and Choreography–CCDRTP at Forum Dança, Web Video streaming manager, video post-production for Rumo do Fumo artists: Vera Mantero, Miguel Pereira and was the Lead Documentarian, videographer coordinator of the Festival Materiais Diversos- first edition in Portugal. Award winner in 2010 of the Inov-Art 2ª edition Program from the Portuguese Ministry of Culture, Ivo Serra started to work in NYC with Movement Research in video archiving and videography. With this opportunity, Serra begun to develop a body of freelance artistic and professional documentation work in NY: A creative collaboration with Larrisa Velez for Danspace Project platform 2010 and the American Realness Festival, videography for Melanie Maar at The Chocolate Factory, Jon Kinzel at the Baryshnikov Arts Center, Nicky Paraiso at La MaMa, and for numerous "Food for Thought" venue artists at Danspace Project. Since 2003 to 2012, Ivo Serra presented his works in Germany, USA, Russia, South of Africa, Brazil, France, U.K., Switzerland, Greece, Spain and Portugal. Ivo Serra defines himself as a video artist, a video cartographer in the Dance and Performing arts field, a videographer, a performer and most especially a re-writer of thoughts and hopes.
