Danièle Desnoyers trained in classical and modern dance from a young age. She went on to study dance at the Université du Québec à Montréal and later performed with La Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault for several years. In the 1990s, she began to choreograph works of her own, winning the French Prix de Jeune Auteur at the festival Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine Saint-Denis for Concerto grosso pour corps et surface métallique (1999).
