In 1993 Jonathan Inksetter presented his first solo show in Vancouver, CA. In 1997 he curated and created work for the exhibition Vicarious Positions in Montréal, at the now demolished Galerie Isart, followed by his first sound installation an ocean of air (1998) at Galerie Articule . Later that year he received a creation grant from le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for the project sound objectives/objectif sonores. His other installations include les valises qui parlent(2000) and terrascope(2003), both presented at les bains, in Brussels, and room tone process(2001), a two month inhabitation of an abandoned hospital room in Montréal. In 1999 he received the Viacom Award for Best New Canadian Student Director, and Best Experimental Video Award, from The Montreal World Film Festival - the same work, MusicVideos, went on to receive a Golden Gate Award at the 2000 San Francisco International Film Festival where the jury praised the piece for " expanding and subverting the predominant clichés which have defined and limited the scope of the music video for over a decade." Since 1998 until present he has maintained a series of collaborations in dance and new performance, with residencies in Costa Rica, The Banff Center of the Arts, Le Groupe Dance Lab in Ottawa, and The Loft in Brussels. An ongoing collaborative process with Antonija Livingstone under the name Inksetter & Livingstone led to the performance son of wood - supported by The Canada Council for the Arts and presented in residence at les bains in Brussels in the fall of 2001. At a residency in the U.K. they created the performances and video installation nothing nowhere nobody - presented at Grizedale Arts in England, with exhibitions in Canada, Finland, Austria and France. In 2002 they were awarded Artist Laureates of Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes. He has also recently collaborated with Andrew de L. Harwood as scenographer, installation, and projection artist. In fall 2002 on the performance Ani*males, presented by DanceCité at Monument National, in Montréal, - as well as a residency with Harwood and lighting designer Yan Lee Chan, at the S.A.T. in Montréal, February 2005. On January 25th, 2005, the invited, his film based on the work of Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, premiered at the Vidéodanse Festival, at Centre George Pompidou, Paris. He is currently based in Montréal.
