Dogtroep was the name of a Dutch theatre company that existed from 1975 to 2008 and achieved fame far beyond the borders of the Netherlands with location theatre.
Dogtroep created large-scale visual theatre performances in a variety of indoor and outdoor locations. The group used images, acting and music and hardly any text. The location was almost always the starting point for the performance and not only its physical possibilities, but also the history and social context of a place formed the sources of inspiration. Dogtroep consisted of a small core, which was expanded per performance with freelance musicians, designers, designers, technicians and actors. It was a travelling company, with a home base in Amsterdam.
