Birgit Akesson, was born in Malmö in 1908. One of the leading European interpreters of postmodern dance, she studied dance with Mary Wigman in Dresden (1929 - 1932) subsequently developing her own personal soloist style away from the tradition of German expressionism. Years ahead of her time artistically, she was an inspiration for renowned photographers of the period. The life and work of this fascinating dance personality has been documented for the first time, on the basis of her extensive archive, with a number of unique photographs, varied text contributions and with a detailed record of her dances and Choreographies.
